EDUCATION
He enrolled at the Novosibirsky State Medical Institute. During his studies at the Institute he took active part in a scientific students' club activities which was founded by the chair of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (as part of the Novosibirsk Research Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology — NIITO) under the guidance of Professor Y. Civyan, one of the founders of vertebrology.

While being a student Igor Akszjonovics started his independent scientific research work. He operated on all parts of the human locomotor system including the front sections of the spine. He also examined and treated patients with orthopaedic traumas using conservative treatment methods.

PHD THESIS
He defended his PhD thesis called “The mechanical origin of experimental scoliosis“. The research work was of clinical and experimental nature. It dealt with the theoretic issues of spine biomechanics and biomechanics of the development of spine deformation in children. Part of the research work was carried out in cooperation with the chair of structural resistance at the Novosibirsk State Electrotechnical Institute where the researchers carried out physical experiments and mathematical calculations.

As a result an original theory of deformation forming in a growing spine was developed. The work also presented an experimental project of implanting a multichannel electric stimulator for the treatment of different diseases and injuries of the spine as well as different ways of implementing it.

AWARDS AT THE INTERNATIONAL CINEMA FESTIVAL
for the scientific films about orthopaedics and traumatology (Riga, 1984–1985)
MEDALS FROM THE EXHIBITION OF NATIONAL ECONOMIC ACHIEVEMENTS
for having created a way and a special device to treat spine deformations and the development of a mathematical model of the human spine
DIPLOMAS FROM THE NATIONAL MEDICAL AND TECHNICAL SOCIETY
for the development of technical devices to treat spine diseases
Through years of research and treatment of spinal deformities, I have come to realize that our spine is not just a mechanical system. It is “a concentrator” of multiple things crucial for human health.

The spine is pretty much the core of everything. It gives energy to all organs and tissues.
